  • Should I run or stay

Hi I'm 16 and sometimes I want to run away but I don't know what would happen if I do I would have nowhere to go. When I fight with my mom she threatened to slap me a cross the face that when I get scared because she holds all the power and my dad just stands there when this happens. I know that they are mad at the moment but they can get mean and scarey then she doesn't really talks to me but then is all srry to me act strange that just makes me wanted to cry more but I act fine with it trying not to get her mad again.

RE: Should I run or stay

Thank you for reaching out to NRS today. It sounds like things at home are tense between you and your family. You mentioned that your mom has threatened to slap you when you argue and that your dad does not intervene. That does sound quite scary, and we imagine may make you feel like you have to deal with it alone. If you ever feel threatened or are in danger of being harmed, it is your right to report to authorities such as police or child protective services to ensure that your safety and well-being is a priority. We are wondering how you typically deal with the tension and stress at home. Sometimes having hobbies or other outlets can help cope with home life stress.

From the title of your post, it sounds like you are torn between leaving home and working through things with your family. What would need to change in order to improve home life? What would you need from your mom and dad to make living at home better? Also, what is it that you think you can do to improve your situation at home? These are some things we can discuss with you if you needed to talk it out with someone. Sometimes just having the space to verbalize how you feel can make a difference. Leaving home is a big step. It is important to think about how you will stay safe, where you will go, whom you will go to, how you will provide and care for yourself, and how you will get support and from whom? These are just a few important things to think about. We can also discuss these with you if you reached out by phone or chat. Our phone services are free, confidential, and 24/7. You can reach us by dialing 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). Our chat service can be found on our website at

We look forward to hearing from you soon and wish you the best.

    Take care and be safe,
