  • I want to run away from home

    Hello,
I'm above 18 already and still live with my parent. They don't mind and I can take care of them as well.
But, lately, I have an issue with my family, especially my mom.

    As today,
She yelled at me saying I am an ungrateful daughter of her. Saying I am rude and calling me Satan for voice out my opinion. I refused to let my cousin live with us since we have a finance problem and it will cost a lot of money as well since my mom always came to me saying we don't have enough money, stressing her stress at me. She always neglected me, I know I'm way above 18 and can take care of myself. I received a job offer this month but she won't let me accept the job offer. Earlier this morning, she threatened to kick me out from the house. I don't know what I should do, I want to run away but I don't have money and place to go. I want to walk out from this house.

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to NRS!

We are always here to listen and here to help in any way that we can. It can be very frustrating not knowing what to do or what your next step might be from this point on. It sounds like the situation with your friend is really complicated and stressful. It’s brave of you to reach out.

We have a database of resources and we are more than happy to try to find you a place to stay. There may be social service agencies in your area that can help meet some of these needs, such as Transitional Living Programs, a kind of shelter where young adults can live and get services to help them transition to independent living (employment, school, etc.). They help youth work on their goals, while they're living there. If you’re interested in that option, don’t hesitate to give us a call so we can see if there’s any in your area.
We’re here if you’d like to talk more about the situation. Our safeline is open 24/7. We also have a chatting service via our website, unfortunately, it is not always open. The best way to contact us would be to call in and talk with our trained liners.

    Be well, NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
