    Re: my son

Thank you for posting another bulletin. Wow! That sounds like you have found out some tough news with the recent drug use. How did you find out? Do you think that you would confront your son about this? How do you feel he might respond? It sounds like your son has identified what he feels the problem is, and what he feels would help him. Anger management skills might be something that he feels would be helpful in coping when he is upset. It is good that you are supportive in wanting to work together through it and also good your son tried to create a plan for himself. This may make things easier because it sounds like he is also open to help. Here are some resources for you in the Phoenix area.

Boys Town has a national hotline which is 24/7. Their number is 1800-448-3000 or you can view their website: http://www.boystown.org/home.asp to find out more about their services.

Terros may also be able to assist. They are a non-profit organization that works with adults and family in addressing behavioral health needs. They have a program called Arizona Families F.I.R.S.T (Families in Recovery Succeeding Together), which focus on substances abuse. You can contact Terros at (602) 685-6000 or view their website at: http://www.terros.org/index.htm .

Tumbleweed also has programs for out-patient counseling for youth with behavioral problems. You can be reached at 1866-SAFE-703 (1866-723-3703) or (602) 271-9904
They also have a program called Family Builders, but you would need to be referred by Child Protective Services. Their contact number is (602) 685-6000. Also you can view Tumbleweed's website at: http://www.tumbleweed.org/index.html .

Also in your first posting you had mention your son wanting to be emancipated. Emancipations can be a difficult process. In the state of Arizona the youth must be at least 16 years old. It might not be an option available to him. More information can be found at: http://www.lawforkids.org .

We are a 24/7 confidential, non-judging crisis hotline. If you would like to discuss anything more in-depth, you are welcome to call us at 1800-RUNAWAY(786-2929) or post another bulletin. We look forward to speaking with you! Good luck!

    Re: my son

Thank you for contacting the NRS. It sounds like you have a frustrating situation going on with your son and ex; we are sorry to hear about it.
You asked if you should get a psych eval done for him because he is in behavioral schools. We are not trained counselors or therapists here but we can help you find one in your area if you would like. We can also offer other referrals in your area. It sounds like your ex and yourself are in a tough spot with your son but that you want to support him through this. If you feel comfortable, please let us know where you are writing from so we can help you find those resources. Or, you can call us here at 1-800-RUNAWAY to further discuss any questions you may have. We are a 24/7, completely confidential hotline; we can help you to find resources and discuss your options. Good luck with everything and remember, there is always someone here to help you.
