i'm 19 and my parents have been abusive since i was a little girl. recently i've been involved in an abusive relationship that i am out of but still fighting the consequences and i've been diagnosed with lupus. i don't drink or do drugs, am not sexually active or anything (my only relationship was the abusive one that i was dragged into) yet my parents have randomly started threatening to kick me out of the house--my mom decided to stop taking her meds and is freaking out 24/7 and i'm scared. i don't feel safe and its definitely a bad enviornment having lupus. but i don't know what to do, i feel like i'm at a dead end. i'm a college student but i doubt i can afford that on my own and more importantly can't afford the medical care i need. it's going to cost a lot because i've been hospitalized twice. but i think if the current situation keeps up, i'm going to have to get out. if anyone has advice i'd really appreciate it. thanks and God bless.

A response from the National Runaway Switchboard.
Thanks for contacting NRS. We are sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like you are feeling stuck. We can imagine you must be extremely worried as well. It sounds like you really want to succeed and there are options out there for you. Do you know if have medical insurance coverage through your college? Many universities/colleges offer insurance to students while they are in school. Also, you mentioned that you doubt you can afford college expenses on your own? Have you thought about getting financial aid, or student loans, or applying for a scholarship? Does your college offer a work study program? Those are just a few options to think about. Also talking with a counselor might help you make a decision. If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us at 1800-RUNAWAY.
hope this helpsPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
