  • My girlfriends sister is being abused

So me and my girlfriend have been going strong for a few months (ldr) and today at around 2am she starts texting me saying she's crying because her mom's snapped on her younger sister who has autism, I've just finished consoling her but I could use some advice here, my girl doesn't want the government involved because her past experiences with them have been a bit trash, they didn't really do anything to help, I'm so torn right now I just want to help her and there's nothing I can do

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us. This sounds like a difficult situation, but you must care a lot about your girlfriend to want to help her out.
Depending on what happened between your girlfriend’s mom and her sister, you could contact Child Protective Services in your state. If there is any child abuse or neglect going on, they could help you file a report and potentially keep your girlfriend’s sister safe. You can also contact your police to do this.
Otherwise, sometimes just another adult intervening in the situation can help. Maybe there is another parent, family member, or teacher that your girlfriend would be able to talk to about what happened. If they deem that your girlfriend’s sister is in a dangerous situation, they could also maybe help you contact the appropriate authorities.
It sounds like your girlfriend is pretty upset about the way her mom treated her sister, and that you’ve been a good ally to her through this. Perhaps there is another person she can talk to that would make her feel better, like a school counselor, or therapist.
We are happy to help find a therapist or talk more about your situation if you want to give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). You can also give our number to your girlfriend if she wanted to call herself. Thanks again for contacting us, we wish you the best of luck.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
