Hi I am 13 and I want to run away. My life has turned upside down. I used to be the girl you could see walking down a store holding hands with my mom but now she never lets me shop, matter of fact all she does is yell at me. I just cant take it. I want to run away. The only problem is that I am only 13. i cant skip school for the rest of my life I cant do anything to help the situation i'm in, I want help. My bags are packed I just don't know if they can call the police and get me arrested or if she finds out if she will yell at me. I just don't know.

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline today. We understand it takes a great deal of courage to ask for help. We want you to know we think you’re really brave for coming to us today. We’re so sorry you’re being yelled at and treated badly. You don’t deserve to be made to feel like leaving is your only choice.
We want you to know that we’re here to talk about this situation in confidentiality. We won’t judge or tell you what to do. Your safety is the most important thing to us. If you did leave home, though we are not legal experts, typically the police would be there to return you home to your parents. They usually don’t arrest someone for running away since it is not a crime.
If you think it might help, we offer a conferece call service here. We might be able to help you talk to your mom and figure out if there’s any way the two of you can get along. We’re 24/7, so there’s no rush if you’d like to think about it. If you just want to talk about it some more or try the conference call, please consider giving us a call here at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).
We just want to make sure you’re safe in whatever choice you have. If you feel like you’re not safe where you are, you have the right to call 911. We’re so sorry you’re going through this right now.
Best of luck,
NRS
