I'm 14 about to be 15 and I've been abused at home all my life. I ran away 5 other times and went to the police but they didn't believe the crazy stuff my dad would do to me. They took me right back home and said we would see a therapist, but its been 2 months since then and we never gotten a call about it. My father claims he can't change because his mother was the exact same way with him. He manipulates everyone he meets to make it seem like hes a good father. I know we have some good times like when we watch movies together or we sit at the dinner table and laugh, but when he explodes hes crazy with the so called "disapline". they think i been runing away because of my phone getting taken but its because of the way he hands situations with the hitting of an extention cord, or choking me, or throwing me across the room, or beating me with a belt. Today me and him argued this morning and i knew something bad was gonna happen when i get home from school. So i ran away to a friends house unprepared and scared.

Hi there, thanks for reaching out to us at NRS.
Some of those acts of "discipline" from your dad sound very violent and scary. You mentioned the police not doing anything, but have you talked to Child Protective Services at all? They have a 24/7 hotline at (800) 422-4453 and can connect you to your local hotline where you can report the abuse so that they can initiate an investigation and hopefully come up with a plan to keep you safe. You can always call us at (800) 786-2929 and we can make the report together, or you can reach out to a teacher or counselor at school, or even a local hospital's emergency room if you are feeling like you are in immediate danger. Teachers, counselors, and health professionals are mandated reporters, which means they are required to report abuse if they hear about it. Keeping any sort of documentation you can of the abuse, like pictures of bruises or specific details of recent events, can be helpful when you're making your case. Nobody deserves to be abused, and you don't have to go through this alone.
It sounds like at the time you posted this you went to a friend's house when you suspected something was going to happen, which is good. Since it seems like the police haven't been responsive, one thing to keep in mind is that there is a possibility that they could just return you home again if there isn't an abuse report in place. Please know we are available 24/7 by phone if you are interested in discussing this further and exploring additional resources (800) 786-2929.
Good luck!
NRS

Thank you very much for contacting us today! We are here to listen and here to help. It sounds like you are in search of a plan since you ran away. We are sorry to hear that something must have been going on to cause you to want to leave. It sounds like on the one hand, you want to search for your livelihood, while on the other, you are worried about getting discovered.
As you may know, parents and guardians can file runaway reports if you leave with your local police. This information is entered into a police database that goes nationwide. This means that police anywhere could see that you ran away from home. We are not legal experts, but we can share with you what we have learned. Running away is a status offense, since you are underage and left home. If anyone helps you, they can be charged with harboring a runaway. Likewise, if you seem to be suspicious/as though you ran away, anyone can report you to the police. For a job or anything of that nature, you can feel free to apply, it is just a matter of never knowing if anyone would find out you are a runaway and report you. If you have more questions about this, feel free to call us or chat with us via chat. If you have more questions that may depend on a legal experts answer, see the link below to find the expert nearest you:
We hope to hear from you soon!
Best,
NRS
