Hi there, thanks for posting. Your living situation sounds really stressful and like a lot for a 15 year old to handle. You are not alone. We are here to support you and listen and problem solve with you!
You and your siblings do not deserve to be in situations where things are being thrown (even soft things) and your parents are fighting. It must have been especially scary to see the salt shaker almost hit your youngest sibling! It sounds like your aunt is someone who you can trust and talk to about this. Perhaps you and your siblings can stay with her for a while or stay with another family member until things calm down with your parents. You obviously care about your siblings a lot and it must be a lot of pressure to be the oldest and feel like you need to protect them from the arguing going on.
You can also reach out to Child Help. It is the national child abuse hotline, but they can also provide information on domestic violence and being witness to the things you and your siblings are seeing and hearing. They can also help get custody transferred to a safe adult like your aunt or another family member: 1-800-422-4453,
We are here by phone 24/7 so feel free to call anytime: 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) and also 4-11pm CT on live chat on the website daily. Please reach out if you want to talk more about your situation and explore more options! You are so strong for dealing with all of this and brave for caring for your siblings! We are here to support you and you are never alone!!!

I'm a 15 year old who lives with my mom, dad, and three younger siblings. They go by the age of 12, 8, and 5.

My parents have had arguments before and sometimes throw stuff at eachother. Usually a pillow, sweater, or blanket. Something usually soft. After an argument, they ignore eachother. Usually for a day. I love my parents, but the ones who are my priorities in my mind are my younger siblings. Their arguments would lead to some of us (siblings and I) to choose one of them to support during the times. Or distract them by going out to eat and just let them rant or relax.

Today was unusual though. I heard from my aunt when I got back from school that my parents had a small argument in the morning. So my mom went out while my dad stayed home and decided to cook. My dad was relaxed when I got back from school. Smiling and watching movie. I ate and decided to organize my room a bit. Siblings got home from school and bit after that my mom did as well. Although she wasn't in her best mood. I'm thinking she was still mad over what happened that morning. My mom started complaining about how my dad left the pot on the kitchen table, since it had left a burned mark on it and damaged it. Another argument had arose between the two, taking place where my siblings were about to eat. Dad threw the plastic salt bin at my mom. In response, my mom threw an empty plate at him. The plate broke over the table and floor and almost hit my 5 year old sibling instead, who had been a bit near my dad. Out of anger for scaring my sibling and causing them to cry, I shouted at both of them. Calling them idiots and cursing them out. Which was the first time I've ever yelled back or disrespected my parents. My aunt soon came into the room and stopped their argument. Yelling at them not to traumitize my siblings and I any longer.
I feel confused and stressed out about the whole situation. I love my parents very much, like I said before. They're caring for us, provide us with what we need, and sometimes spoil us. They don't drink nor smoke. But their arguments have been getting worse. And as I get older I start to realize more how bad it actually is. I could care less of myself, as long as my siblings are alright. What can I do to hide the tension existing away from my siblings?
