  • im tired of diface and my mothers drug abuse, i just want to leave

my mom is a drug addict, and has been since i was eight. im almost fifteen now, and i have runaway before-which resulted in getting caught. i dont want to live with my mom and everyone tells me i should. when i explain that im most likely to leave if pushed to my limit, people joke that i csnt handle it and that i wont survive. my "family" therapist decided that i should have individual therapy, since i seem "depressed" or angry. i have been saving up for a while now, and i know where i want to go. im always looking up places to travel so i can get away, although i cant even drive yet. am i making the right decision? i want to be a vet, but i wont likely achieve that dream if i do decide to leave.

    Hi there,

It sounds like you're in really tough situation and have been for quite some time. No one deserves to be mistreated or not believed.

It seems like your mother's drug use has had a huge effect on your life. You can reach out to the National Alcohol and Drug Helpline at 1-206-722-3700 for support for yourself or advice on how to cope while you’re still living there.

It also sounds like you are contemplating running away. We aren’t legal experts, but generally speaking if you run away because you are a minor, if the police were to find you they would most likely return you home. There could also be legal consequences for whomever you stay with for what is called harboring a minor charge. If you want more information about that or to talk through it, we are here 24/7 and completely confidential. You can reach us at our hotline at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through live chat at our website www.1800runaway.org. You deserve to feel listened to and to not give up on your dream of being a vet.

Let us know how we can best help,

    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
