  • I feel like my dad has been abusing me

2 years ago, I had gotten a spanking by my father and during the spanking he would choke me, slap me in the face, pull me by my hair, and put his foot on my neck. Just last week, I had gotten a spanking and he slapped me in the face, and was pulling me by my collar. I want to live with my grandmother but my parents won't allow. I also want to get emancipated and I'm only 15 years old.

    Hello,

Is this just happening with your father and how does your mother react to your father’s treatment towards you.
You mentioned living with your grandmother. Does she know what has been going on?

Yes, it is just happening with my father. My mother does not do anything about it and sometimes she stands by and watch. I mentioned this once to my grandmother and aunt. I'm scared to file an abuse report against my father.

RE: I feel like my dad has been abusing me

Thanks for getting back to us. Nobody deserves to be abused, and we are sorry to hear that your mother stands by and doesn't do anything. You don't deserve to be treated this way. It is understandable that you want to be emancipated and that you are considering moving in with your grandma. Since you are 15, you might have to wait to start the emancipation process. We are not legal experts, but we can help you find more information about emancipation laws in your state. You should know that you do have options, and we can help you make a plan to stay safe. We are here to listen and support you in any way that we can. You do not deserve to be abused, and it is understandable that you feel afraid to report your father for this. We can help you decide if reporting might be an option for you, and if you decide not to make a report you can still talk to us about your options. Our service is confidential and you can stay anonymous by not giving us identifying info. We are looking forward to your call, and wish you the best of luck.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
