I graduate this Friday and am wanting to move out. last night my mom and I got into a huge fight and she kicked me out. I left for a couple hours and then she told me to come back, so I did. once I got home, her and my older sister held me down and pulled my hair and got aggressive. I locked myself in my room while they screamed at me for about an hour and a half. my mom told me once I graduate, I can move out and I will be on my own. I will be staying with my boyfriend. is there anyway I can contact the police without getting in trouble to let them know my situation? I want to be able to move out safely and be able to get my belongings. and I also don't want my mom to turn around and say I ran away. she gave me the option to move out, so I am. we fight all of the time and she's an alcoholic, which is why I have so many problems with her.

Since you are so close to turning 18 and your mother told you to move out, it does not seem likely that you would be considered a runaway. You can call the local police at the non-emergency number to get more information about the law and ask questions. It sounds like you are concerned about getting out safely and with your belongings. One thing to remember when you are moving is your important documents, like your ID, social security card, birth certificate, and other papers. thank you! I was also wondering if it would be possible for my mom to press charges on my boyfriend. I find it very unlikely considering he has never posed as a threat to me and there is no logical reason for her to press charges. I am the legal age of consent (17 in Illinois) and my mom approved of our relationship until recently for no reason. we also have proof of her consenting to our relationship and text messages of her saying how thankful she is that he was in my life, and of her consenting to me staying the night at his house, etc. I feel it would be very unlikely for her to press charges, especially so close to my 18th birthday.

Thanks for getting back to us. You are correct that since you are so close to turning 18, you are less likely to experience legal problems from moving out. If you are still worried about it, you might consider waiting until your 18th birthday to move out. However, with only two weeks to go, it is less likely that the police would pursue any charges. I was kicked out on Wednesday and have had nothing but a pair of shorts, a t shirt, a pair of sweatpants, and the clothes I have on my back. I want to get a police escort to retrieve my belongings. do you have a general idea of what I can expect to happen?
