  • I neglect

Hello, I'm 16, I live in Michigan and overall I'm unlike most people on this site, I'm not being verbally abused or physically abused, however I'm constantly neglected, I've been lacking motivation since early 7th grade (currently 11th grade) and because of that my grades slipped. My parents constantly get on me for not doing anything, however it's very hard to do anything when you suffer from depression and have a cynical outlook on life. Recently I've found 2 motivations that keep me going and chugging along through life, moving to Japan, (no I'm not a weeb) and cooking, more specifically I want to study culinary art abroad in Japan, and both my parents are 100% against it, everytime I bring it up they tell me how I want make it, or how being a chef isn't a real profession, and that I'm going to get nowhere in life. They currently act like I don't exist and give my sister all the attention she wants (and I'm glad they do, hopefully she doesn't turn out like me) leaving me on my own, and I've done plenty of research and over the last few months have planned all the finite details and multiple back up plans on how to run away, my question is, does my situation sound like it's worth running from, or sitting through life without and aspirations?

Thank you for writing to us here at the National Runaway Safeline .

We understand it takes great courage to reach out, and we appreciate you sharing a little bit about what’s going on.
It’s too bad that your parents are not very supportive of you and your dreams.
Your choice for a career does sound like one in a very good professional category.
We want you to know that we are here as support to help you through this difficult time.
You are making strides to plan out your future. Some may believe reality usually comes from what starts as a dream and then it becomes a goal.
Putting yourself on the path to reach those goals is what makes them become reality. You are your own person with your own aspirations.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to achieve your goals. Good for you.

If you would like to talk more in detail and share more about how we can help specifically, please call or chat soon. We can best help by phone or chat as NRS is unable to respond more than twice by email or bulletin for assistance.
Our contact information is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929); (click on the chat button).

We hope expressing your feelings helped you to feel better .
