Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you want to move out of your mother’s house. We are glad that you decided to share this with us. Moving out on your own is a big decision to make and we want to help you with this transition.
We are not legal experts but generally speaking a person is not considered an adult until they are 18. This means that their guardians are legally responsible for them. So the parent is required by law to provide for the youth (food, shelter, school, etc.) If they fail to do so then they can face legal consequences. This also means that the youth cannot live anywhere else without parents’ consent. There are exceptions to this rule but those include getting the court involved such as emancipation or Child Protective Services removing the parent’s rights.
It sounds like you are interested in becoming independent which is a huge responsibility. When making the choice to move out it could be helpful to consider, what are some things that you depend on your parents for now like rent, insurance (health and auto), and school.
Additionally, if you ever need a places to go, we also can provide you with various resources for agencies in whatever area they are in to best help. You can always call us to talk about what you are going through and receive some support. We provide free, confidential, and nonjudgmental services. Everyone deserves to be respected and loved.
If you are able just give us a call 1-800-786-2929
    Best of luck,
    NRS
