Ok so first off my father is an abusive man mentally, physically, and to drugs. He is no longer in my life because he doesn't care enough to stick around. My mom has a boyfriend and they make me clean the house if I want paid, I'm in 10th grade so I need the money but they expect me to do everything like clean, laundry, watching the kids, and buying cat food and kitty litter. I've talked about getting emancipated in front of them but my mom and her boyfriend are totally against it and he said if I say I want to get emancipated one more time he will start back handing me every time I say it. He also used to hit/slap/smack me or my sisters whenever we did something wrong.Advice??

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are done having to clean up after your family. It is understandable that you would want to leave a place where you are not being treated fairly. Since you mentioned emancipation one way to find out more about it would be to go to your local juvenile court and ask them some questions. Also since you mentioned that your father is abusive we want to you know that you do not deserve to be treated this way. We want you to know that you do have the right to make a report with Child Protective Services. Child Help USA is an information and referral line that can connect you with your local CPS abuse hotline. That number is 1-800-422-4453. If you ever felt like making a report or needed help, we are here to assist with that. We understand that making an abuse report can be intimidating so if you like we can call together to provide support.
You are special and people care about you. You deserve to be in a safe place where you feel safe. We want to give you as many options as possible so you can make the best decision for you. If you would like to talk more about what’s going on you are more than welcome to give us a call anytime 1-800-786-2929
Best wishes,
NRS
