  • HELP ME AND MY SISTER we want to leave HELP!!

I'm a 14 year old on probation,i lived in Austin Texas with my dad and got in some trouble, and got put in a detention center down there.I wasn't too happy with me living down there with my dad,but i loved living in Austin. While i was in the detention center my dad and attorney told me if i moved to a small town (where my mom lives) i would most likely get out sooner..so in attempt to get out i said yes i would move in with her..and im ready to move back..my mom doesn't keep food in the house, and i have to pay for my food every week,my mom is also on probation herself, she use to sell ice (methamphetamine) but she rented a car and never took it back, then she ran from the laws who tried to pull her over and had a large amount of meth on her person.I have to little sisters a newborn, and a sister who is ten who wants to live with her dad (my step-dad who was with me since i was two years old)..me and my ten year old sister do not want to live here with our mom, because of such poor living conditions, bugs, spiders rats, lack of food,..ect. we feel helpless because we do not know what to do and school is about to start soon and we wish to start school where we want to live.

    PLEASE HELP
YOU MIGHT MAKE A LIFE OR TO A LITTLE BETTER
FOR US AND ANYBODY ELSE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING.

Re: HELP ME AND MY SISTER we want to leave HELP!!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us at the National Runaway Switchboard to discuss your living situation and we hope that we can be of service to you in this time of need. We appreciate you caring enough for your sister 's safety and your attempts to get yourself and her out from under these circumstances and only enhances the greater need for attention to be paid to your situation even more. It sounds like a terrible situation for you and your sister to be in but you surely deserve better. It is unclear why your father and attorney chose to send you to live in such horrible conditions. After all, they must have known the life your mother chose to live for herself and makes us wonder if they are the right people to assist you in your time of need. Is there no one you can count on for support other than the people you mentioned?

As mandated reporters, we are in the position to file neglect and abuse reports and especially try to work hard to advocate for your safety with the proper authorities. Have you thought about calling the police or Child Protective Services in your city to find out more about your rights and what you can do to get out from this situation? By the fact that your father opted to send you to your mother in order to get you out of detention earlier seems like that was a good thing at first but now it has turned around on you. Living without food is a neglectful situation and can be reported but this is if you are comfortable with the idea. It is never a guarantee for what the outcome is going to be but at least enables people to get more involved. It can also hold your parents accountable to care for you properly.

We hope that you can count on us for support to find you resources. We can also assist you by being here for you if you need someone to talk to and get some guidance with how to appoach the situation. We can be reached 24 hours a day for resources at our 1800RUNAWAY number and feel that you can benefit with a call to us. We hope that you can get in touch to see what your father and attorney can do to get you back home. What do you have in mind for how you can change things for yourself to feel more comfortable? What can you do to make it easier for you and your father to work out something to get you some help to avoid trouble in the future? It seems by reading what you said that he was thinking it was in your best interest to go away but if things can be different, then maybe you can start over. We hope that you can call to get someone from our agency to call the proper authorities, if you are willing. Please consider some of what we stated and we look forward to helping more soon. Good luck.

    -NRS

Re: HELP ME AND MY SISTER we want to leave HELP!!

Thanks again for writing in. It sounds like you may not be comfortable reporting the situation and that’s okay. It’s not always an easy decision and it’s understandable that you are thinking about your mom’s feelings, but it also sounds like home is not a good place for you and your sister and it’s important to think about that as well. If you ever need someone to talk to we are always here for you. If you ever think that you would be able to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY, we are here 24 hours a day. Even if you just need to talk. We are never here to tell you what to do, but we can help you look at options. If you ever think you may want to talk with someone from Child Protective Services, you could always call us and we would be happy to do a three way call and help advocate for your situation. In the end it is important to think about how you and your sister can be safe. Best of luck with everything and contact us anytime you need to. Take care.
