  • I cant take another month but Im going away to college in a month

Im going away to college in a month but i cant take another month with my family they are constantly on my case about everything and contstantly tell me i am irresponsible and negative but i am working 40 hours a week
and my sister is in the hospital right now with suicidal thoughts and she is also mean to me and literally said she wishes i was dead and hates me
My parents said if i dont listen to them they wont support me because they dont have to and they make me feel like ******** because they dont want to be doing the things they should be doing already like supporting me
i have nowhere to go but i dont want to stay home for a month and im not financially independent and i kinda need my parents because they are the ones who signed my student loans
They said if i want to leave then leave and dont come back during a fight today and my dad said i should find someone else to support me
they dont care about me and only pretend to do so for posterity sake
I need to leave but i also need to stay so i can afford to go to college what do i do?

Hello there, sounds like home is a really difficult place for you to be right now between what your sister is going through and fighting with your parents. Seems like you are in a pretty tricky situation where you have to make a hard choice between your personal freedom and having your parents help support you.

You might contact your financial advisor to see if you are able to finance your college education without your parents’ assistance and signing off on your loans. If paying for your own education is not an option, you might think about what you need to do to make it through this next month at home. You mentioned that you work 40 hours a week that probably helps you stay away from home; you seem like a really hard worker. You might think about adding hours or doing another job/hobby to stay away from the house for the next month. You might also think about what you need to do for your mental health. You might think about doing things that help you relax. If you are interested in seeing a counselor, we do have those resources here if you call or chat. We also have a conference call service, if you ever want to have a mediated phone call with your parents. If you all are able to have a respectful conversation about how each of you are feeling, maybe you all can come up with a compromise that works for everyone.

Please reach out via chat or phone if you would like to talk more about your situation.

    Best of luck,
