  • Family Can't Help Me, How Do I Help Myself?

I don't have any contact with my mother, and my father is not the best influence. Just got kicked out of my grandmother's home tonight. All I have is my car during the summer heat. No air-conditioning. I work full time and somewhere to sleep.

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are so sorry to hear that you were kicked out. It sounds like you’re looking for options for where to stay. We’re not legal experts, but from what we understand, if you are a minor in your s and your grandmother is your legal guardian, she is responsible for your care and for housing you. You have the option of reaching out to your local police department to let them know that you’ve been locked out. Beyond that, housing options might include reaching out to a friend who might be able to let you stay the night. Another option might be to look into local shelters that might have space to house you. If you need help finding a shelter near you, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to help you stay as safe as possible. You can reach us by phone 24/7 at 1.800.RUNAWAY (786.2929), as well as via chat every day from 4:30pm – 11:30pm CST. We’re here to listen, here to help. Stay safe!
