  • I need to get out

I am 17. I'll be 18 in 4 months and I can't handle living here and my only option is to run away. My dad has neglected me for most of my life and my mom and her new boyfriend are emotionally abusing me, calling me lazy, good for nothing, fat, and that I'd sit on my butt and collect welfare money and spend it on stupid stuff. I have been depressed for 4 years but it has gotten to the suicidal point when I was molested by my moms ex boyfriend in 2013. Even before that her ex boyfriend would abuse me and hit me and she did nothing about it. She has been treating me very poorly since then and I need away because I can't take it anymore and I'm afraid if I don't run away now that I might kill myself in the future. So my questions are: what can I do? Where can I go? Please help me.

Re: I need to get out

    Hello,

We’re glad you felt comfortable enough to reach out on our bulletin boards. It sounds like you’ve been through a lot between neglect form your dad and emotional abuse from your mom and new boyfriend. Please know you don’t deserve abuse or neglect and there is support out there. You mentioned you’ve been depressed for quite some time and even got suicidal after your mom’s ex-boyfriend molested you. We’re so sorry you had to endure that and hopefully you’ve realized that happening isn’t a reflection of you.

As far as your questions regarding what you can do and go if you run away, we are here to discuss options, but it might help to reach out directly to go over specific resources such as shelter or options such as reporting the abuse, neglect, and molestation. In the meantime, here are some National resources that might be able to help.

RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) https://www.rainn.org/

    Childhelp USA https://www.childhelp.org/

    National Safe Place http://nationalsafeplace.org/

We hope this gives you a start and encourage you to try Live Chatting or calling us for further help.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
