I've never had the best relationship with my mom. We argue over the dumbest things. I even overheard her one day telling someone on the phone she was ready to drop me off at a group home. So anyways, for the past few months I've been in a secret relationship with this guy and i'm not a virgin anymore but my parents didn't know and possibly still don't. today when my mom got home she took my phone for literally no reason and I heard her on the phone 20 minutes later. I kept listening and realized she had read the messages between me and my boyfriend. I can't remember everything that was there but I do remember us talking about him coming over today (which he did). But in my phone, he's under a girl's name but there's things in the conversations that make you realize he's not and i'm freaking out because 1 I'm not supposed to invite anyone over 2 my boyfriend is technically too old for me and 3 I can only lie so much and I don't want to get caught up in my own lie. they may kick me out if not I might ask to leave. she's waiting for my dad to get home and I don't know what to do or say. I almost got caught with him once and my parents told me they didn't trust me anymore now that they have physical proof I don't know what will happen.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you're in a really stressful situation.

From what you've said, it sounds like there are some difficult things you and your parents will need to discuss. If you find it hard to get through to your parents, you can try something like writing out what you want to say and leaving it for them to read/sending them a text. We also offer a conference call service, in which you and your parents could discuss this over the phone with a neutral third party "middleman" to help mediate the conversation and keep it on-track and productive. Just give us a call at 1-800-786-2929 if you think that would be helpful for your situation.

Another option that could be helpful is counseling. Individual counseling could help you deal with these stressors in a healthy way and would give you a space to be honest and open about what's on your mind. Family counseling could help bridge the gap in understanding and trust between you and your parents. If you want help looking into counseling resources in your area, just give us a call.

If your parents are your legal guardians, then they are obligated to provide you with shelter. Kicking you out would be a form of neglect, and you'd be able to file a report with CPS. If you want help making that report, you can give us a call and we will help you through the process. You can also give us a call if you need help finding a place to stay, and we will look into shelters in your area.

Best of luck with everything, and we're always here if you need someone to talk to.
