Reply:Runaway
Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.
It sounds like you are frustrated by the religious upbringing instituted by your parents and you are thinking about running away.
While discipline may be part of the rules physical abuse is considered illegal.
You don’t deserve to be hit by anyone or with anything.
If you are at risk of or have been physically harmed you have the right to file a child abuse report with child protective services. If you would like to do this contact: Child Help USA 1-800- 422-4453
Running away is not illegal in most states and is considered a status offense. Parents or guardians can file a runaway report and this would allow the police to detain and or return you back home.
It does not remain on your record and is usually removed once the runaway is reunited with their parents or guardians.
We hope that makes sense.
If you would like to speak more about your situation you are welcome to call NRS at: 1-800Runaway (786-2929) or live chat at www.1800Runaway.org
You did great reaching out today.
Take care,
NRS
