My stepdad has repeatedly called me a failure, pathetic, and an idiot. Growing up Ive had issues with responsibility and HW, but Im definitley a smart kid, and my grades are still at a passing level. But, my parents, mainly my stepdad, are frustrated because they believe my grades would be so much higher if I did all of my HW, and I understand where they are coming from. But I dont think that that is a very sufficient reason to call your son a pathetic failure, and its definitely not sufficient enough to threaten to take away my chance at a license, or college. So could threats and remarks like, and I quote, "You have given me nothing to be proud of yet," count as emotional or psychological neglect, and if so, what would happen If I called Child Protective Services, or if I ran away?

Hey there,
It sounds like your stepdad is really hard on you in your opinion. We can imagine how frustrating that must be having to deal with pressure like that. Unfortunately we are not a legal resource so we can't say what will happen if you take action. It can be hard to prove emotional abuse to CPS, so that may be something to think about. If you are a minor under the age of 18, there is a chance for you to be made to go back home. Your family can file a runaway report with the police and have them looking out for you. We can't give you advice on what you should do, but you can always talk with us if you need support.
Take care,
