17 and want to get away

Hi, I'm 17, a Junior in high school (almost a Senior), can legally work, and I live in CT. I have mental issues like depression, anxiety, and PTSD, and I am getting help for it. But my parents are making it worse. They have taken away my phone and ability to go anywhere except counseling and school. I no longer have any responsibilities, but I wish I did. My parents have not done this for no reason though, I have lied to them several times and I'm getting help for that also. I have been thinking about going to live with my best friend, and her parents have said that it would be alright, but I'm completely sure that my parents would not consent to it. I would really appreciate some advise about this because I'm starting to hit rock bottom.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to us tonight. It sounds like you’ve gone through a lot in your past and are still going through a lot now. We are really glad to hear you’re getting help for it, but it’s disappointing that your parents are making it worse.

Your parents taking away your phone and your ability to go places must make you feel pretty isolated. It’s really mature of you to acknowledge the fact that they have done that for a reason, and that you’re getting help for having lied to them. Knowing when to admit your mistakes is the first step to making progress to become a better person, and it looks like doing that is really important to you.

It sounds like their still might be some tension and mistrust between you and your parents. One thing you can try to do is talking openly with them about the way you’re feeling. Being very honest and upfront with them and having a genuine discussion with them might help a lot with how you are feeling! While rebuilding that relationship with them, they might become more open to the idea of you moving out and living with your best friend. You could also try talking to your counselor about how you are feeling, they might be able to give you really great advice to since they know a lot about what you are going through.
