Hello there, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear that you feel unsafe with your dad and he has a drinking problem. Home should be a place where you should feel safe and welcomed.
If your dad’s alcoholism is getting in the way of him providing your basic needs or if any abuse is going on in the home, you do have the right to report that to child protective services. To learn more about reporting you might contact the expert child advocates at Child Help 1-800-422-4453 to see if that is a good option for your situation.
The easiest way you can live with your sister without getting child services involved is with your dad’s permission. Since he is your legal guardian, you can stay anywhere with his permission.
If you are looking for support with dealing with your dad’s alcohol abuse, you might contact Families Anonymous at 800-736-9805. They are a support hotline for people who have family or friends struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.
Please do not hesitate to call or chat us if you would like to talk more about your situation. We can provide support, help brainstorm your options, and possibly provide some additional helpful resources. You should not have to go through this alone, and we truly want to help.
Best of luck,
NRS
