Hello #1,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It is great that you are ready to move out on your own and become independent. Living in a house where you are constantly being blamed for things you did not do and getting into arguments with its members sounds super hectic. It is understandable why you would want to move out and forge your own path but to our knowledge the age of majority in most states is 18. This basically means that you are not allowed to move out without your parents’ permission until that age. IF you do leave their home before then without their blessing, they do have the right to file you as a runaway. Usually the police will attempt to locate you and if they are able to find you then they would return you home. But since you are close to being 18 sometimes the police do not attempt to search for someone who is close to 18. It just depends on the officer involved.
Another way that you would be able to leave home is with your parents’ permission. Is that something that you think they will give you? If not then maybe we can help you communicate with them about this. One service that we have here is conference calling where we talk to both parties and try to come up with a solution that both sides can live with. If this is something that you might be interested in you can give us a call.
Again, it is great that you are taking initiative talk to us about your situation and being mature enough to realize that you want something different. We hope that this information that we have provided you helps and you are able to get what you want. If you have any more questions please feel free to call us anytime at 1-800-786-2929.
Best,
NRS
