My parents are usually good about supporting me but when it comes down to this one summer program I want to do they keep being iffy on it. I said that it was a little too late to get cold feet but they just have no regard for anyone but themselves. I got so mad, like madder than I've ever been and I left the house for a little but they didn't even notice. They said that I can't stay in the dorms even though the program says that if you're 15 you can stay in the dorms with parental approval. Literally that is how you make friends too like I would be so left out if I didn't stay in the dorms. They also want me to do like a teen tour or something traveling and I'm like well how are you ok with literally sending across the world but not even letting me stay in a dorm IN MY HOMETOWN. I know that this seems ridiculous and dumb and bratty but it feels very real and relevant to me. I want to run away for like a day but I don't know where I can go.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are having a disagreement with your parents about a summer program that you are going to attend. It doesn’t sound unfair that they are willing to let you travel alone but not willing to let you stay in the dorms. With them being unfair like that it is understandable that you would want to run away from them for a day or so. We want you to know that your feels are valid and we just want what is best for you. We are not going to tell you that you should or should not runaway. We are here to try to provide you with support and resources so that if you do decide to leave home, you are doing it intelligently and safely. So if running away is something that you really want to do then you are more than welcome to give us a call and we can talk about all of your options and help you come up with a safety plan.
It sounds like you are a very mature and responsible person. It’s great that you’re trying to figure out the impact before taking any actions. We’d be happy to talk through some options with you. Please give us a call at 1-800-786-2929. We’re here to listen 24/7.
Take care,
NRS
