RE: what happens if a parent tells the child to leave

    Hello there –

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to get into contact with us here at the National Runaway Safeline on our public forum, we are always here to listen and here to help in any way that we can. Hopefully by supporting you there are other that are reading through this thread that can relate can feel helped as well.

No one deserves to be treated like that at all. Just know that you always have the right to report any abuse (physical, mental, sexual, or neglect/abandonment) to your local police department or child protective service in your state. You have rights too and your parents cannot just kick you out of the house without providing alternative living and care. If they did not and left you on the street, then that is considered child abonnement and neglect. If calling out to child protective services is something that you don’t really feel comfortable with doing, you can always give us a call to help answer any questions about the process or to walk you through what steps there are. We can also help you file if you’re worried about doing it alone. Also, if you are feeling that you are in danger or scared please don’t hesitate to call out to the police. The police can come and check up on things for you if you call out to them.

If you give us a call on our 24/7 fully confidential hotline, at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) we could help answer some of those questions you have and could potentially help you brainstorm a solution to the issues you are having. We can even help you find a safe place to go while you figure out what your next step is going to be. We also have an online chat service available every night from 4:30-11:30PM CST that is available through our website ( if you don’t feel like calling in to talk on the phone.

    Hope this information helps!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
