my dad hasn't talked to me in over a month because he was mad at me about something, this morning he came into my room and saw it was a mess and started yelling at me calling me a pig and saying i should be ashamed of myself, those were the only words he's said to me in over a month. apparently he yelled at my mom too for not telling me to clean it, she said it was my fault he yelled at her. My dad was the nicest man you'd ever meet, i went from being his little girl to a piece of trash. he didn't say happy birthday to me on my birthday or merry christmas or anything. i feel like i just cause problems and i don't wanna live in this house nomore

    Re: Parents

    Hi there,
Your dad's behavior to you this past month sounds really hurtful, not to mention confusing. It is understandable that being ignored for a month and then yelled at and insulted would make you want to leave. Even though your dad was angry for you, you cannot be blamed for his actions. It also sounds hard to be told by your mom that her being yelled at by your dad was your fault.

It sounds like you are thinking about leaving home. Have you thought about where you would go if you did leave? You may need to think about whether you have a plan, and whether it accounts for your safety. It may also be helpful to reach out to people you can trust about what is going on at home. If you are under 18, you can usually be considered a runaway, so that if your parents call the police, they may be able to find you and bring you back home. You might also think about whether there is a friend or relative who your parents would give you permission to stay with.

In some cases, the issues at home might be helped by talking them through. Please feel free to give us a call anytime. We would be happy to listen to more details about what has been going on at home, and to support you in making whatever choices are best for you. If calling isn't your thing, you can also chat with us live on our website from 3:30pm-11:30pm cst.

    Good luck!
