  • I need freedom

My mom is controlling me, and im so tired of it! She told me that I can't get a car until i'm 27, at times she'll say I might never be able to drive at all. I am feel ready to get my permit, but she'll never allow it. Also, she told I will never be able to go to college! She punishes me for such tiny things. For example, a few days ago she pointed out that I had a pimple on my face, and began asking me a million questions whether I was using my prescription, and went on and on and on about how she knows this and that. She so serious about everything, and never once asked me about my feelings. She made a stupid excuse to why I'm unable to work at rite aid as a cashier. She should be happy that I want to start working!

    Re: I need freedom

    Hi there,
We're sorry to hear that your mom is punishing you for small things and being very hard on you.

It sounds like you have a lot of goals that your mom is not supportive of, such as getting a drivers license, going to college, and working. It sounds hurtful that she does not ask you your feelings. Please feel free to give us a call to discuss what you have tried, and options for communicating these problems to your mom. In your view, what would make the situation at home something you could live with? What needs to change? You may think about what changes are out of your control and whether there are changes that you would be able to control.

If you are considering running away from home because of the problems with your mom, you may want to think about where you would go, how you would get there, whether you would still be able to go school etc. We would be happy to discuss these things as well. Safety is usually very important to consider. It is not a crime to run away, but you can typically be returned home by the police if you are found. Do you think that your mom will call the police if you run away?

We wish you the best, and we hope to hear from you soon.
