Re: Advise on what i should do

    Hi there,

Thank you so much for reaching out to us at National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you have been going through a lot at home and we are sorry to hear about this.

It has got to be tough living at home with your family when your brother is active in his addiction. It sounds like it has been taking a toll on your relationship with him as well as your life at home. You deserve to feel safe in your own home. Have you heard of Al Anon? This is a program that is specifically for families and loved ones of addicts. Similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, they have local meetings in which families and loved ones can provide support to each other as well as seek help in dealing with living with addicts. In order to find a local meeting, you can go through the website here:
    http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/local-meetings

It sounds like one of the main issues you are facing currently is communicating to your parents about your feelings regarding your brother staying at home. Here at National Runaway Safeline, we offer conference calling. This means that if called into our 24/7, anonymous and confidential hotline at 1800runaway, we could make a call out to a guardian to help facilitate a conversation about the way that you have been feeling, the things you want to change and what your parents can do to help you with this. It can be hard to communicate with guardians, and that is why we offer conference calling with youth, to make sure we facilitate and mediate the conversation and make sure you are being heard in what you are trying to communicate.

We are here to support you as much as we can. If there is anything else we could help you with, or if you would like to explore your situation and options further, please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat which is open every day from 4:30p to 11:30p CST and can be accessed here: http://www.nrschat.org:88/chat/UserP...&d=&u=&bypass=

        Re: Thank you

        Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out again. It sounds like your parents have not been hearing you when you try to communicate your feelings. That has got to be really frustrating. Do you think that a conference call with NRS would be helpful with this, having a third party that is unbiased to the situation?

Similar to this option, we have many different resources, including counseling services. Have you ever thought about family counseling, with your parents and your brother?

We are here to help you out as much as we can. If you would like to talk through your options and situation more, we are here 24/7 at 1800runaway and our hotline is anonymous and confidential. Our chat is also available from 4:30pm to 11:30pm CST through 1800runaway.org.

        Good luck and stay safe,
        NRS
