  • Not Accepted

For a while I had been hiding the fact that I am not Christian anymore, because I feared my parents wouldn't accept it (keep in mind I am only 13) When I finally told them they called me a Satanist and the Devil, and my sisters are (still) screaming at me for how stupid I am. This is one of the many reasons want to go, but this blew me of the edge. I want to go, I'm always crying, and I suffer from depression. Help please?

    re: Not Accepted

    Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out tonight. It sounds like you are a really brave person who trying to figure out who you are. That's incredibly brave. Some people go their whole lives without thinking about who they are or what they believe in. It's great to hear that you have started that. It sounds like your parents aren't really accepting what you believe. That's got to be so frustrating. From what you're saying, it sounds like you feel like you want to leave because of everything that is going on with your family. It was smart of you to reach out. So let's see how we can help you out.

Your family is wrong to call you stupid. You don't deserve to be treated that way. Sometimes when we are going through tough times - kinda like what you are going through - we think about who we might be able to reach out to get some support. Reaching out and sharing with someone about how we feel is not always easy - for sure - but having a conversation with someone who could help could be an option for you. Who can you reach out to for support?

One resource that might be helpful to you is www.teenlineonline.org. They are a website and an organization where you can talk with other people your age who are going through some of the same things. You can also call us 24 hours a day at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We are confidential and anonymous. We can talk through more about what is going on, hear more about your story and come up with possible other options for you. Please don't hesitate to call, or to chat through our website (www.1800runaway.org) from 4.30pm-11.30pm Central Time.

We look forward to your call or chat.

    Best of luck to you,

    NRS
