Parent of runaway

I am a parent of a runaway teen. 17 year old A student. He is angry because I ask where he is going and who he will be with when he goes out. I tell him good night, I let him know when dinner is ready. He hates me and I cannot figure out why. Last night we got into a huge yelling fight with him telling me how much he hates me and that I am a bad Mom. He has broken my heart. I am not overprotective, not overreacting, I'm actually very lenient. He has tried smoking pot and drinking, but does not like it. His friends are known to dabble in it too. That is why I question him. I don't know what to do now. He hates me because I took away his car last night. He gets a job every summer (see great kid!!!) and there is a job that is perfect so we mentioned it to him last night and that is when he blew up. I can't talk to him. Lately he just yells at me to say "what do you want, leave me alone!!!!" I've tried to talk with him and he just shoves me out of his room, physically. What do I do now? He said I call and text him too often, so I don't want to even do that now to find out where he is. I'm sure he is at a friends home and safe because he is not stupid...

Hi, thanks for contacting us. Sorry to hear about the problems with your son. This must be very hard time for you and your family. Have you ever sat him down when you two are not already having a conflict and talked about the problems you two are having? When you said he shoves you physically out of his room, do you feel it's violent? Has he ever been to a counselor? Is there anyone else in the family that he listens to?
