Im 15 and I've tried reporting CPS and the police in hopes to get put into a shelter/foster home so I could be in a safe place. CPS has it down on the report that if I do not get relocated into a shelter I will run away or kill myself.

Well, even though the reports were made, not only by me, they were not taken seriously.
Tonight I plan on running away and I have a place to stay for awhile with someone who will not report me. I have clothes packed, all of that sitting some where I can eventually pick up.

I want to run away until I am 18. I know running away is considered a status crime and that cops will be a tad careless with finding me, and if found all that will happen is that I will be sent back home. But I was wondering, figuratively, what are the chances of me not being found? This is my only fear because Im afraid of what will happen if I do get caught.

    RE: Family issues

    Hello,
We are sorry to hear that you do not feel safe at home, and that CPS and the police are not responding to your reports. Everyone should feel safe in their home. It's great that you have identified a safe place to be. You are right that it is not illegal to runaway, but we should mention that if you are staying with people who are over 18 years old, they will be harboring a run away. This could get them into trouble. We are not legal experts , but we have found that police jurisdictions handle runaway youth situations differently.
The best way to find out how the police may respond is to call the non-emergency number for your local police department. Feel free to give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) if you would like more information, or we would be happy to talk to you by live chat at www.1800runaway.org from 4:30pm-11:30pm Central Standard Time. Please be safe and contact us at any time.
