Hello. I would like to first start off with I am 13 and most likely have bipolar disorder and some depression. I've been self harming lately and it is because of well.. everything. My friends are kind of just forgetting about me, they even make fun of me sometimes. My parents also play a large role in this too. My dad always screams at me because I am not doing something right, or he needs something. My mom is a large role, maybe at lease 4/6 of it. Lately, shes been driving me crazy because she acts like I am 6. She tells me "brush your teeth, go to bed now" and i get it; you're just trying to be a parent. But she does it so demanding, and so often. I've self harmed and figured out ways to prop my door shut because my door does not have a lock. What drives me insane is when she says "it's the final push" and I know its not. I have few days of school left but I don't know if I can do it. I need to get away from my parents desperately, and I honestly don't know where to go and how I tell them. I need some help, and I've told her, but as per usual: "it's just the final push." Basically, I need to know how to get away from my parents, which is peaceful, and relaxing. My friends are just a distraction during the day, but I have no one at night. Help me? Thank you.

RE: Help me get away
Hi Katrinasabol,
Thanks for posting on the National Runaway Safeline bulletin board. It was brave of you to share your story and reach out for help. It sounds like you're struggling with some mental health issues and that living at home is really tough for you. It sounds like you struggle a lot with your parents.
It sounds like you're considering leaving home. If so, is there somewhere safe you can go to get away from your parents? One option might be to spend some time with family or friends. We at NRS can help you brainstorm some options for where you might safely go, if you'd like. Otherwise, what ways can you use to cope with your situation at home? One resource that might interest you is To Write Love on Her Arms, which is http://twloha.com. It is for people struggling with self-injury and depression. Another resource is the National Suicide Hotline, which is 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Both resources might be something you can look into when you're feeling the desire to self-harm.
If you'd like to discuss this all further, feel free to give us a call. Our number is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We're available on our safeline 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Or you can chat with us from 4:30 to 11:30 pm Central time by going to www.1800runaway.org and clicking the red button in the corner. We hope to hear from you soon,
Best of luck,
