    Re: running away

Thanks for posting. From what you wrote, it sounds like you or someone you know is thinking about running away and possibly needs a shelter. There are emergency shelters for runaway and homeless youth in various cities in North Carolina. Are there specific cities you wanted information for? Just so you’re aware, anytime a minor (under 1 stays at a shelter, they have to contact legal guardians within 72 hours. This is a federal law, meaning they have all have to follow it. Many shelters, however, have their own procedures in which they contact legal guardians within 24 hours or even immediately. Knowing this, does a shelter still sounds like an option for you? We can definitely help you find shelters in your area if you’d like.

What is the reason for wanting to runaway? Is there anything that can possibly change at home in order for you not to want to runaway? Our hotline is 24 hours and can talk to you about what’s going on, your options and help you come up with a plan of option. Sometimes it helps to have an unbiased person to talk to. We never tell our callers what to do, especially whether or not to run away. The number is 1-800-RUNAWAY. Call anytime.
