    Re: Mom /family

Thanks for reaching out to us. It sounds like a lot of different things are going on right now and you feel like you can’t stay home. It’s probably difficult to be around your family when they’re drinking. You mentioned that they always want to hit you, do they ever actual hit you? You deserve to feel safe and comfortable at home. You also wrote that you’re leaving tonight. Have you thought about where you might go? How long do you think you could stay away for? What about staying safe and having enough food to eat? All these are important things to think about when deciding whether or not to leave your house. Is there anything that could change about living at home, which would make it easier to stay there? How about things that maybe you could change? Sometimes it’s hard to change a situation when there are other people involved (i.e. your family), because they obviously may not see things the way you do or want to change. Have you talked to anyone else about the way you're feeling and what you want to do? It's important to have people-friends, relatives, teachers-that support us.

Our role here at the National Runaway Switchboard is not to tell you not to runaway or to runaway, but rather we want to talk through the situation and how you’re feeling. We also try to go over different options, their pros and cons and help you come up with plan that you’re comfortable with. If you do decide to leave tonight and want to talk or need help finding a place to stay, our number is toll-free from any payphone. Or if you want to talk to someone before leaving. Someone is always available 24/7. The number’s 1-800-RUNAWAY. Feel free to call us anytime, day or night.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

Thanks for sharing part of your story with us and the other bulletin board post-er. It's great that you're willing to let others know your experiences with running away. Sometimes it helps to know that there are others out there that are going through the same or similar situations. We encourage you to keep reaching out to others and sharing your story.

If you ever need anything, give us a call.
