    Re: I hate my family

Thanks for reaching out to us. We’re so glad to hear you feel comfortable enough to tell us a little about what’s going on. We hope that we’re able to help you in some way. Mostly, we want youth to know we do care and are here to listen to you, encourage you and empower you to make the best decision for yourself. We’re sorry to read that your family is always yelling at you. It’s probably also really frustrating and hurtful to feel like your family loves your sister more than you. You wrote that they’re trying to put you in a foster home. First of all, what is there reason for doing this? Secondly, how do you know that they’re doing this? The thing with foster homes, is that families can’t just put their youth in them. Usually either the courts or the Department of Children and Family Services has to be involved and they’re the ones that actually place youth in foster homes or other placements. There aren’t a whole lot of places that a family can put a youth, without the youth’s consent. And most of these places cost money. What do you think would happen if you were to go live somewhere else?

You asked for help. What kind of help were you looking for? Do you think it would be helpful to find a counselor in your area to talk to you about all this? They may also be able to help you talk to your family about making some changes. We’re definitely here to help, if there’s something specific you’re looking for. Also, our hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY, is available 24/7. We’re completely confidential and anonymous, meaning we don’t need to know who you are and even if we did, we wouldn’t tell anyone. We would be happy to go over what you’re feeling, the situation, possible options, including their pros and cons and help you come up with a plan you’re comfortable with. Sometimes it’s easy to go through all this over the phone if you’re able to call, but if for some reason you can’t call we’d be happy to help you as much as we can via the internet. If you let us know what you’re wanting to accomplish (what kind of help you’re looking for) and maybe a city/state (so we can look for resources in your area), we can do our best trying to find something that might work for you.

Even if you’re just wanting to vent about what’s going on and have someone listen, without judging you, we’re here. Please call anytime, day or night. Best of luck and remember we’re here if you need us.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
