  • Please help..

Hi, my mom, dad, and especially my little sister all verbally abuse me at home. But it's mostly my mom and sister. My sister reminds me constantly about how ugly/stupid I am, she's ALWAYS taking my stuff without permission, she tells me how I'm going to rot in Hell, and she's physically abusive too. My mom, when she gets mad(which happens quite often) always tells me about me being a mistake and how much she hates me. I don't know what to do anymore.. I'm on the verge of running away but I wouldn't know where to go. Please, please, please help me!!

Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are having a really hard time right now. You said that your mother and your sister are abusive towards you. Nobody deserves to be treated that way. Hearing those things must be very hurtful. Just so you know, you have the right to file an abuse report and to ensure that you have a safe place to live. You can call us and we can do that with you, or you can go to a trusted adult such as a teacher or counselor and share what is going on.

You said that you are on the verge of running away. Have you ever runaway before? There are lots of things to think about before running away. If you would like to talk to somebody and discuss your options, you can call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are here to listen 24/7. We could help you decide whether or not you want to leave home, and where you could go if you did. You can also chat with us live from 4:30-11:30pm CST at 1800runaway.org. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best of luck,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

Hello! Thanks so much for replying! I just have a few questions before I do anything serious. Um could I really file a report based only on verbally abuse? I don't see how that would work out.. No, I've never run away before. I always thought that if I did run away I could go to my friend's house. She doesn't live that far. But the town I live in is kind of dangerous. Oh and is there anyway to like stop the verbal abuse?
      Thanks so much!

        Hi again,

You asked whether you could make an abuse report based on just verbal abuse. If you are being abused or feeling unsafe in anyway in your house, then you can file an abuse report. The report will include a description of the kind of abuse. It is up to you whether or not you choose to make a report. One way to stop the abuse would be to make a report.

If you are considering this option, you can call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY. We can talk to you about reporting, and help you to make a report if you decide that that is your best option. We can also talk to you about running away. You can also reach us by chat from 4:30-11:30pm CST from our website, www.1800runaway.org. We look forward to talking with you!

Hello again, sorry for such a long reply. Is there a way I could make a verbal abuse report online? I'm afraid I don't have the courage to contact you or go to a police station. Thank you very much.

            RE: Please help.

            Hi there,

It's smart of you to reach out for some support and guidance. It sounds like you're trying to put together a solid plan. So in some states making a report online is an option. You can check by searching online for your state's abuse reporting line.

If you'd like to continue talking about options, the next step would be to call into our hotline or chat with us through our website.

We look forward to talking or chatting with you.

            Best of luck,

Hello, thank you for your prayers but I do not think they will help much. No, I can't leave my home; there's no place for me to go and as I said my neighborhood/town is pretty dangerous. Many times I have thought of running away but I'm still stuck here. Looking into my family's faces is a constant reminder of what a mistake I am. I...I really don't know what to do anymore. There's no one I can talk to, no one who understands, and no one who even cares.

Thank you very much for your concern.
