Re: No were to go
Thanks so much for contacting us. It sounds like you are in a tough spot at home right now and thinking about leaving. You mentioned that you are 17 and have a baby. It sounds there are some family problems and that is one of the big reasons for you wanting to leave. How long have you been thinking about leaving? 17 is a tough age. In most states the age of majority, when you are considered an adult and can leave home without permission, is 18. But police in some states may not take a runaway report at 17 or make a youth return home. They may also take into consideration that you have a child. It may help to contact your local police/sheriff on a non-emergency line to ask some questions if you are concerned about any of this. Do you think your parent/legal guardian would make a report if you left?
Now we are not here to tell you what to do. In the end this decision is going to be yours. Our main concern is for youth safety. If you did end up leaving do you have a safe place you can stay, somewhere to sleep and eat? Those are certainly questions you may want to consider before deciding to leave. Keep in mind if you would like to discuss your situation more in depth you can contact us anytime at our 24 hour hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).
