  • this is the most unpleasant enviroment ever

Im still at home, but Ive been planning on running away for 3 years now. Im a 15 year old girl and have had a pretty good life up till I was about 4. It all started when my brother was born. I was never at the attention of my parents after that. My mother never smiled at me. she never showed me joy. she didnt look at me unless she had to. I wasnt old enough at the time to really understand that those moments would lead to a terrible life. when I was four, my brother was born. everything took a turn for the worst. my mother stopped paying attention to me. she smiled at my brother and was all joyous and stuff. the only reason I stuck around was because they gave me food. My paeaents expect more from me to. I have to get good grades inorder to Vo stuff like go out to the Y. I dont get Bs and As so my parents yell at me. what should i do?

Thank you for reaching out to us and telling us your story. It sounds like you have a lot going on right now and we think it was very brave of you to reach out to us. Here at the National Runaway Safeline, we are a confidential and anonymous crisis line to help youth stay safe.

It sounds like things went well for you until your younger brother was born and then it sounds like your mom didn’t give you much attention. We are sorry to hear that things were difficult for you and that it led to you wanting to runaway. What is your relationship with your family like now? One option you may have is to talk with your mom about what you are feeling; what do you think about that?

It sounds like you have been planning on leaving home for quite some time now, do you have a plan? One thing we can do is try to help you find shelter or another safe place to go. We also have other resources such as counseling or legal aid resources. If you were to give us a call, we could help you explore those options and start looking for some resources. You can also check out our website where we have a list of questions and things to consider before leaving home (

You can reach us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) if you would like to talk with someone. We also have chat services available from 4:30 PM-11:30 PM (CST) on our website (

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck.

Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
