I am going through a difficult time right now. I want to leave my home. I am 18, and I am in my last year of high school. I live with my mom and stepdad. Here lately, my mom just lays in bed or plays on the computer all day. She has been overreacting about everything (when she does talk to me) My stepdad just never talks to me. Never really has. My fiance and I have discussed my decision of leaving home. He has a home, a stable job, everything we would ever need. I want to leave, but the only thing holding me back is my parents. I am afraid to hurt them. I don't want them to think that I want to leave because I hate them. I just feel that I am ready to leave. Also, I am just so fed up with living here and having no one to talk to. I am ready to leave and start my own life... I am just scared. What should I do?

RE: leaving home and still in school
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you really care about your parents and are eager to start your own life but are afraid of hurting them. Have you tried talking to them about how you feel? We are sorry to hear your mom and you are having communication problems. You mentioned that you have a fiancé who can provide for you. It’s can be good to have a supportive ally in difficult times.
You also mentioned that you are in your last year of high school. Would you be waiting to finish out the school year before you left? What other options do you think you have? Here at the National Runaway Safeline we can provide non-directional support for you. We are anonymous, confidential and available for you 24/7. We can be reached at 1-800-RUNAWAY(786-2929) or by live chat at www.1800runaway.org from 4:30pm-11:30pm Central Standard Time. We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck.
