  • 16 ran away from home

I have ran away from my my mothers home and left to my grandparents . I am having trouble enrolling myself to school and dont know what to do . . . I left my moms not because i wanted to be free or got pregnant or any other crazy reason i left because her home isnt safe , theres always men drinking and doing crystal meth . I get scared for myself because people under bad influences never think before doing anything stupid . My mom also does the drugs with them . She always denies but a person that treats her kids the way she does isnt normal . her attitude her appearance isnt the way it should be . i need help . i want to graduate and get my diploma and go to a university . But in order to even enroll i need my mothers consent and she doesnt want to cooperate with me

RE: 16 ran away from home

    Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us during the difficult time. It sounds like you removed yourself from a very dangerous situation and we are glad you are safe now. Are your grandparents able to help you enroll with school? We are sorry to hear you are having difficulties enrolling in school. While we cannot tell you what you should or shouldn’t do, we can offer you resources and help brainstorm ideas on what to do next.

One of the resources you might look into would be the McKinny Vento Homeless Assistance Act which helps with students who are currently homeless at http://center.serve.org/nche/m-v.php . There are several other resources such as Justice for Children at http://justiceforchildren.org/ or call them at 1-800-733-0059, they may be able to advocate on your behalf since it sounds like you left due to an abusive situation.

Nobody deserves to be put in a dangerous situation and we applaud your decision to continue with your education. If you would like to speak with someone immediately you can give us a call at our 24 hour crisis hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We also have an online chat that is available from 4:30p to 11:30p CST through our website at www.1800runaway.org. We wish you the best of luck and hope to talk to you soon!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
