re: 18 year old national athlete
Hi
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. We are sorry to hear about the way things are going for you at home. It sounds like you have a lot to be proud of; you are achieving good grades, have gotten accepted to college, and you’re involved in a sport that you enjoy. It seems unfortunate that you and your parents are unable to get along despite of how great you are doing. It sounds like some of the problems between you and your parents have been centered around your curfew an and eating habits. How is the communication between you and your parents? You mentioned that you just turned 18 and are currently a senior in high school. You stated that you have been searching for a foster home to apply but is in need of assistance. Foster homes are generally available to those minors who have taken out of their by the state. Based upon the information provided, it does not sound like you are currently a ward of the state. However, there may be youth shelters available in your area that you could reside at until you start college. In order to try and locate the nearest youth shelters, your city and state is needed.
We look forward to hearing from back you. We hope things improve for you and if you are in need of immediate assistance, remember you can call us toll-free at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). Our hotline is confidential, anonymous, and available 24 hours 7 days.
Best Wishes

18 year old national athlete
I am a national athlete training 6 days a week 5 hours a day. Currently I am in second semester of grade 12 and i just missed honor roll with an 82% average and I just got accepted into the University. Last summer I represented the University at summer games and won three medals. Things are not good at home. I have been openly invited to leave the house by my parents who are being ridiculously unreasonable. I am currently seriously wanting to leave the house. The things i have been nabbed for have had consequences that have no moral or meaning. I went rollerblading tonight for 2 and a half hours at night around the university campus and covered around 50k, a good workout. I come through the door and i get a load of ******** getting asked to move and saying i was risking my safety. I also got vehichle priveleges taken away for the whole week so me and a fellow athlete near me now can not train for the whole week. The other day i had an earl supper and then when supper time came around i told them I was full and i had just ate, I got told i was to sit at the table anyway and sit there since i havent been at the supper table as a family for a couple days due to late training times. They were basically telling me what to eat and force me to eat. I am an adult , I just turned 18 and im getting treated like a pathetic two year old that eats only candy all day, and i cant even do things that a regular kid can do. I have no freedom and when i do things that are harmless and healthy/active I get a load of unfairness back. I am desperately seeking a foster home and i have no clue where to look or how to apply to one, anything to get me out of here so i can be a regular kid. I am fed up beyond.Tags: None
