  • I'm fed up.

Favoritism is always shown between my brothers and I. Whenever they start something, like get my clothes lost and toys destroyed; it's alright with granny but when it comes to me acting to the situation, my grangran instantly yells yells at me though I've reasoned. Today my brother destroyed something that cannot be replaced [ it was a beautiful keychain, and yes he knows it's mine and it cost me my effort ] and I told him why he touched it; then granny came in and suddenly just yelled at me.
This is the 4th time that happened this week. Meanwhile, my father's being a meanie. The more I hear them yell at me, the more I want to run away. He even starts pointless fights with my mother.

Even talking won't do the job for them. Even when I do it slowly, ignorance and crab mentality takes over them. I just cried.

    What can I do?

Thank you for reaching out and contacting us at the National Runaway Switchboard. We are sorry to hear that you are going through a difficult time right now and we hope to be able to provide you with some resources to give you additional support.

It sounds like you feel that your brothers are receiving different treatment than you are. From what you said, you feel that its ok when your brothers touch your stuff but when you do the same to them, you get into trouble. Is that correct? It also sounds like you feel your father isn’t hearing what you are trying to say to him when you talk with him. This all sounds like it’s very frustrating for you and we are sorry to hear that.

You mentioned that you felt like running away because of everything that is going on at home. If you were to leave, do you know where you might go? Here at the National Runaway Switchboard, we wouldn’t tell you what you should do but we can definitely try to help you find resources such as shelter or counseling. We can also just talk to you about what is going on and discuss what other options you may have available to you.

Please give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) anytime; we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since it’s a 1-800 number, you can call us for free from any payphone. We also have a live chat service that is available 7 days a week from 4:30 PM-11:30 PM (CST).

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck.

Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
