I am 16 years old and have lived with my fater since i was 6, my mother has been in and out of jaill, nothing major except interfering with custody when my dad got custody of me. My mom lives in Florida (i live in Mass) and i wish to live with her, legally; i have considered running away, also my dad and step mom are verbal and emotional abusers, my step mom constantly searches my room, they wont let me practice what religon i want, and are way too controlling; im gay and they simply say tht im nt gay, they are homophobes. I have almost committed suicide but i stopped myself, I'm docially ackward so i have no friends really, my step mom has told me many times that she wants me gone, is there any chance of me going to live with my mom? My dad will not allow it if he has a choice, if i can't than in simply running away, I'm sick of everything in my house

Re: I need to get out of here
Hello there,
We’re glad you decided to reach out to the National Runaway Switchboard. It sounds like you’ve got an awful lot going on and are searching for some legal so your mom can reclaim custody of you. We are not legal experts here, but we can offer some legal aid referrals which can hopefully point you in the right direction. It sounds like it is extremely difficult for you at home and we are very sorry to hear your dad and step-mom are verbally and emotionally abusive. No one deserves to be abused regardless of the type of abuse being committed.
We imagine it is also difficult when they outwardly say you are not gay. Just so you know we are not here to judge you in any way and commend you on being open and honest with who you are. There are a few other organizations/projects you might find helpful in terms of LGBTQ support. If you haven’t heard of these or gotten around to checking them out, here are a few that might be helpful in dealing with your mom and step-dad’s view on your sexual identity:
The Trevor Project (LGBTQ Suicide Hotline/Crisis Support and Social Networking)
1-866-488-7386
The Trevor Project provides 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ young people. Text, chat, or call anytime to reach a trained counselor. Free and confidential.
It Gets Better Campaign (LGBTQ Support)
We are not here to tell you what to do in any way; however, if you do decide you’d like to file an abuse report, we are here to help you through that process. In case you’d like to try on your own, here is the Massachusetts Child Abuse Reporting line:
1-800-792-5200
It sounds like the main issue you’d like to focus on is finding out how you might be able to live with your mom the legal way. Although we are not sure in what part of MA you are in, here is one legal aid resource based in Boston which says it services the whole state of MA:
Legal Advocacy & Resource Center
(617)-317-1123, hotline: 1-800-342-5297
We hope that helps and encourage you to contact us directly either by calling us 24/7 at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat (red button on www.1800runaway.org) from 4:30 to 11:30pm CST. Best of luck!
-NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
