  • Runaway at 15

I've had problems at home, that were getting worse everyday since I was young. So I decided to runaway about more than a month ago and have been on the streets since. I talked to many of my friends and friends of my parents and they all told me the same thing, "We don't blame for running away" or "I would have ran away to". And I want to know is there anyway for me to have an alternative place to live, besides going back home, because I know Im not going back.

    Re: Runaway at 15

Thank you for reaching out to us and telling us a bit about your situation. It sounds like things have been really difficult for you at home and you mentioned that you recently ran away because they got so bad. What was going on at home that made you feel like you couldn’t be there anymore? You said that you have been speaking with many of your friends and their parents and that they are supportive of your situation. You also mentioned that since you left a month ago you have pretty much been on the streets. How have you been surviving during this past month? Have you been able to stay with any of your friends or other family during this time? It sounds like you are going through a lot right now and we are happy that you reached out to us during this time. It’s a difficult situation because in most states the age of majority, when a youth is considered an adult, and can leave without guardian permission is 18. Have you been in contact with your parent/guardian during the time that you have been gone? Do you know if they made a runaway report when you left?

Here at the National Runaway Switchboard there is always someone available to provide support, discuss options, and even find resources in your area. One thing you mentioned it possibly finding a safe place to stay and we have the ability of finding shelters in your area along with any other resources you may need. All of our services are completely confidential and anonymous. If you would like to discuss your situation more in depth you can reach someone immediately at our crisis hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We are available 24 hours a day. We also have an online crisis chat that is available through our website. Our crisis chat is available from 4:30p to 11:30p CST. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime. Take care.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
