RE: what do i do now?

Hello, and thank you for contacting us at the National Runaway Switchboard.

It sounds like you are dealing a lot of turmoil right now, and I'm glad you decided to contact us. You've stated that you feel your relationships with your family members are failing, that your mother calls you names and blocks the internet, and does not allow you to leave the home. On top of that, she has been physically abusive in the past, and you are afraid it will happen again soon.

This is clearly a lot to handle, and sounds extremely difficult and frustrating. If you ever believe that you are in immediate physical danger of being attacked, call the police.

When you are feeling frustrated or misunderstood, does anything help you to feel better? Some people will turn to activities that are soothing when they feel this way, such as writing in a journal, listening to music, playing video games, surfing the internet, and more. Do you ever do anything like that?

In addition, some people who are in your position have reached out to a counselor, pastor, or a trusted family member for support. In some cases, a conversation between two family members can be mediated by an individual like that. Do you know anyone who can help you in that way?

If you need support or referrals, please be aware that you can reach us here at the National Runaway Switchboard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1-800-RUNAWAY (800-786-2929). You can also chat with us online from 4:30pm to 11:30pm Central time, via http://www.1800Runaway.org - just click the big red button!

What you are experiencing is not easy, but hopefully you find a way to make it less difficult by continuing to be the strong person you are. Good luck, and take care.

    -NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
