  • I really dont know what to do

I'm 14 years old and female and my dad physically and emotionally abuses me. Mostly emotional but it still hurts. The thing is no adults i talk to are actually helping with anything. I go for therapy because i have anger issues but nobody seems to be even acknowledged that my dad is hurting me. My best friend is the only other person who knows and trys to help me in anyway he can. I really want to run away and i've considered going out of state to my friends house. The thing is my friend parents have no problem with me staying there whatsoever, i just cant afford transportation to get there. Ive tried talking to my dad upfront and all i got was him laughing saying "HA abuse in your dreams im not abusing you." Hes called me names like **********, slut etc., called me worthless, said he controlled every single one of my actions including when i shower and whatever, and spit on me a couple of times when i was on the floor crying. I just dont know what to do .....

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard and sharing your story. We are so sorry to hear about the physical and emotional abuse your father is causing you. We’re also very sorry to hear that the adults you talk to about this aren’t helping you when they should. It sounds like an awful experience and you are very brave to contact us for help. We hope you know and understand that you are not those things your dad calls you and none of it is your fault. You do not deserve this at all.

We’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for but we cannot provide transportation for a youth to runaway. Have you tried filing a child abuse report before? What does your therapist say about your father hurting you? Child therapists are suppose to be mandated reporters and should file a child abuse report on your behalf if they know about this abuse during sessions. We are also here as a support for you. We’re here 24 hours a day if you want to talk to us in more detail about what’s going on. We’re a confidential hotline which means we will not tell anyone about our call unless you want us to report it to Child Protective Services. In which case we can report it with you over the phone or we can report it for you. There’s also another organization that does child abuse reports as well answer any questions about what you can do about the situation. They are called Child Help USA 1-800-422-4453 and they are available 24 hours a day as well.

Please give us a call at 1800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) so we can discuss the situation and explore some options with you. Again, you are a very brave person!

    Take care,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

My therapist doesn't seem to think there's a problem. She ignores my cry for help and just focuses on what we were talking about before. and if i do runaway with your help what exactly happens?

        Hi Again,
Well as we stated in our previous reply there are a list of options you could decide to try should you want to file an abuse report. We don't actually help youth to run away from home. That is a decision that must come from you. Please feel free to contact our 1-800-Runaway 24 hr crisis hotline to discuss your situation and receive more information about our services at NRS.
We hope to hear from you and wish you well.
