Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. We sorry to hear about the way things have been going for you. It must be pretty difficult to have to live in such an environment. You stated that you all have just received an eviction notice. How much time to do you have to find an alternative place to stay? Do you have friends or family members you can stay with? Are you interested in staying at a teen or adult shelter until you can get your own apartment? We would like to assist you with locating a nearby safe housing alternative; however we would need your city and state in order to perform a search.

If you need immediate assistance, please feel free to give us a call a 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). Our hotline is confidential, anonymous, and available 24 hours 7 days. In addition to providing resources, we can assist with conferencing calls out to nearby agencies.

We have until the 18th to leave. I dont really have any family to stay with. Im not really into stayin into a shelter but I guess it beats being in the street. I reside in Brooklyn,New York.

        RE: Life

        Hi:

Thanks for getting back in touch with the National Runaway Switchboard. It seems like you have 3 days to locate a safe housing alternative. It seems like you are not too interested in staying at a shelter. If shelters become your only choice, we can provide you with a list of shelters in the Brooklyn area as well as the surrounding cities. With you being 18, you may have the option of going to a youth shelter or female adult shelter.

If you like, you can give us a call to obtain a list of nearby shelters. In addition we can assist you with calling any of those shelters. At this time of day, a lot of the shelters that do not offer emergency shelter may be closed and may be only availabe during business hours. The Covenant House is one of the main youth shelters in the New York that provides both emergency housing and transitional housing to teens. The Covenant House New York can be reached at 212-613-0300. If you’re interested in additional resources, please give us a call.

We look forward to hearing from you and remember we can be reached at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).
