Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. We are glad that you have taken the first step and reached out to someone for assistance; it can sometimes be the hardest thing to do and we’re glad that you have done this. It sounds like you are going through a very difficult time right now and hopefully, we can provide you with assistance.

At the National Runaway Switchboard, we are non directive which means that we wouldn’t be able to tell you what to do or to give you advice. What we can do is provide you with resources to help you out. We are also completely confidential and anonymous.

You mentioned in your post that for the past year and a half you have been feeling depressed. You also said that you have attempted suicide twice with methods that would be easy to back out of. What methods did you choose?

We’re sorry to hear that your parents called you attention seeking. It sounds like you are going through a lot right now and that you tried to reach out to your parents but they didn’t provide you with much support. You mentioned that your family doesn’t really support you and that sounds very frustrating. Why does your dad only stay with you for half the year?

Have you talked with anyone else about what’s going on and how you’re feeling? Do you feel comfortable talking to others about it?

You mentioned that if you don’t run away, you don’t think you’ll make it through the year. If you were to leave, where do you think you would go? One of the things we can do is try to locate resources for you such as shelter. We can also make conference calls with you to see if they have beds or other resources available.

Another place that you can contact if you ever feel like talking is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. They are available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255 or online http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org They are available to people who are feeling sad, hopeless or suicidal and will connect you with the closest Lifeline.

We at the National Runaway Switchboard are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). Please call us if you would like assistance locating local resources or if you have any other questions. We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck.

Uh, hi. Not sure where this belongs - probably here, though.

I've been searching for a site like this for a while, it's good to see that there is one. Basically I don't even know what's going on with me. I think I might have depression - since a year and a half ago, about. I've attempted suicide twice, but they weren't really serious - I picked things that I'd easily be able to back out of if I changed my mind (which I did for the first try, but not the second - that one just failed). But I'm pretty much at that point again. I've also tried to tell my parents whats going on and I've been told that I'm attention seeking and giving myself depression because I googled it and thought it fitted (depression and bipolar disorder runs in my family, so I was just checking. I mean, I guess I might be psyching myself into this but in the end it doesn't matter that much). None of my family really talks to me, except my dad, who only lives with us half of the year.
I really feel like if I don't run away or change something drastically, I'm not going to make it to the end of the year. Do you guys have any advice?
