  • Abusive father!!! Runaway?

My father has been abusing me for years. I've contacted CPS but they won't do anything. I fear my life will be in danger. I am very seriously scared. I am contemplating running away but last time I did. I got brought back to the same place. I really need help. I'm scared if I go home today that my dad will kill me. Please help me reply back as soon as possible.

Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. It sounds like you are in a scary situation and are looking for resources to help you out. We are a non-directive hotline; that means we wouldn’t tell you what you should or shouldn’t do but we can provide you with phone numbers to resources that can help you remain safe.

We’re sorry to hear that your father is abusive toward you. You said that this has been taking place for awhile now and that CPS was of no assistance to you. When you made a report with them previously, what did they do?

You also said that you had run away before and that the police returned you home. When you ran, did you have a safe place to go? Are there any family members or friends close by that may be able to assist you? Have you told anyone else about what is going on?

There is a national resource, Childhelp USA that may be a valuable resource. They are confidential and anonymous counselors who can help answer any questions you have and provide you with places to report it. They can also assist you in making an abuse report if you would like to do that. Their hotline number is 1-800-422-4453 and their website is www.childhelpusa.org.

Another hotline is Justice for Children. They can help provide you with legal advocacy and also develop a plan with you to keep you feeling safe. They are available from 8 AM-5 PM at 1-800-733-0059 or online at www.jfcadvocacy.org.

We here at the National Runaway Switchboard also have a database of resources and we are available 24 hours a day. If you do decide to run, we can try to help you locate shelter so you have somewhere safe to go. We can also help you to file a report, find legal advocacy or provide you with a safe space to talk about what is going on. You can reach us anytime at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck.
